Initiating Devices
You probably have seen some of these devices around in commercial buildings. These are called initiating devices or sensors. They cause the control panel to make the noise which you come to expect from these alarm systems. These devices come in many different shapes, sizes and designs, but their purpose is the same. Trigger an alarm when they detect an alarm condition.
Notification Devices
Also known as Notification Appliances, these devices simply indicate an alarm by making a noise, flashing a light, or both. You mostly find them in red with white writing or white with red writing. Without these devices, you would not be aware of an emergency situation which requires you to leave immediately.
